Are you interested in moving with classical music? – both live and recorded. If so, join pianist James Hodgson and dance facilitator Jane Belshaw in this new workshop.

What to expect

James will be improvising out of recorded tracks creating music in partnership with the movers. He will also play composed classical music that will invite dancers into new landscapes of movement.
Together you will be exploring the inspiration that classical music may have to offer in the dance. The aim is to offer an experience that may explore such possibilities as the elasticity of waltz time, or the texture of a counter-melody.

Everybody is welcome, whether you consider yourself a dancer or not.

This is a pay-on-the-door event.

Tickets are £14 | £12 conc. | £10 if you’re an E14 resident.

OR bring a friend and both get the class for £10!

About James Hodgson

James was born in Lytham Lancashire, he has a degree in Art History from St Andrews. is an operatic tenor, a singer pianist and was trained as a Music Therapist at The Nordoff Robbins Centre in North London. He recently took a piano diploma and is a Licentiate of Trinity College London.

He has performed internationally as a singer pianist, played for dance, both ballet, ballroom and Revived Greek Dance of the Ruby Ginner Method. His singer pianist work centres around material from 1910 to 1980 with songs by Gershwin, Porter and Noel Coward at the centre of his repertoire. He created a one man show called Genius and Lust which looks at the story of love, the romantic myth in the first half. After the interval it delves into the more murky business of lived Love.

He is currently researching and developing a new one man show with the working title “Break Through Songs”. This will be an exploration of songs that made people famous or have become great hits. It will explore a few thoughts on the why and wherefore of which songs break through.
