Gouri Choudhury teaches Bengali song and music to young people, providing students with a strong foundation in South Asian Music.

What to expect

This course has been devised to instill the love for music in all students by providing them with a strong foundation in South Asian Music. Starting with voice training and Sargam as well as Classical Ragas and the teaching of popular Bengali songs.

The classes are in preparation for an end of course performance at Poplar Union in celebration of Bengali Independence Day on Saturday 30 March.

Times:

2pm-3pm – for ages 4-10
3pm-4pm – for ages 11-18

Please note – Sunday 23 June times are 10am-11am (ages 4-10) | 11am-12pm (ages 11-18)


Teacher Profile

Born in Sylhet, Bangladesh, Gouri Choudhury is a singer and music teacher who is today one of the UK’s most popular Bangladeshi performers. Gouri started her musical journey at the age of 6 from Chhatakkanakchapa khela ghor ashor and also studied for ten years at a musical academy.

She has held positions as a Bengali music teacher for over 13 years at schools all over London and is currently Music Leader of Newham Young Person’s Choir (NYPC) and Sing Up programme ARK.

She began studying music at the age of 6, and has since received diplomas in music and folk song, and performed on both Bangladeshi and UK TV and Radio. She is now a house-hold name in the UK-Bengali community and her popularity crosses over the ocean to North America too.
