This taster Capoeira session will introduce the elementary principles of Capoeira Angola movement and interaction, as well as some of the music. Come prepared to move, play and sing! Everyone welcome!

The practice session is followed by a brief talk with a leading female Capoeirista.

About Capoeira

Capoeira Angola is an Afro-Brazilian practice that combines combat, dance, music and theatrical expression in a dynamic, flowing interaction. Always played to the sound of percussive music and singing, Capoeira Angola is a game of strategy, trickery and elegance that develops self-expression, physical coordination and strength, mental and emotional discipline, respect and responsibility. Capoeira Angola is practiced globally, by people of all genders, ages, ethnicities and abilities.

About the facilitator

Dafne Louzioti trains and teaches capoeira Angola under the guidance of Mestre Pezão (Dendê de Maré). She also works as a performance artist and teaches theatre and performance at Goldsmiths, University of London.
