Young instrumentalists are invited to join and learn from the Grand Union Orchestra this half term to celebrate the music that comes from the African diaspora.

Course breakdown

Wednesday | 1pm-4pm

This workshop will be led by Yousuf Ali Khan. Yousuf is a master tabla player and composer and this session will focus on Indian and Bengali music – all instrumentalists welcome, learn how to improvise, play and perform in this style.

Thursday | 1pm-4pm

Carlos Fuentes is leading the second workshop. Carlos, of Chilean origin is a master percussionist and this session is focused on Latin American poly-rhythms applied to improvising. We’ll play Samba and other latin styles.

Friday | 2pm-6pm (+ concert)

You will culminate the musical works from the previous two days and prepare for the evening concert at 7pm in the Café as part of our Friday Sessions.
