Sew Thrifty: Simple Macrame Plant Hanger

Give old garments and textiles and new lease of life, focusing on a new upcycling project each month at Sew Thrifty!
Macrame Plant Hangers
Well this isn’t actually macrame… This is just a much simpler way to make a beautiful rope plant hanger in that 70’s look we love!
This is a super easy project and once you get the ‘hang’ of it, you can use this technique, again and again, to hang plants around your home. Plants reduce carbon dioxide levels and clean the air from other pollutants, so what’s not to love about that?!
Fabric
These classes champion upcycling so you are encouraged to bring along any unwanted clothing or fabric lying around the house. Not to worry if you don’t have anything; you are welcome to use the fabric provided.
Donations of fabrics are always welcome so drop any unwanted materials off at the Poplar Union office or e5 Roasthouse.
Sewing Machines
Sewing machines will be provided. If the classes are fully booked, you will work in pairs with one sewing machine between two of you. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you’d prefer.
All abilities welcome
You will work from a general template that Maud will guide you through step by step. If you’re a confident sewer, you’re welcome to go off piste!
Sewing Lab
Each session will incorporate a sewing lab aspect. This is where those who came to the previous session can come along and finish off their project. Maud will be on hand to support, but be aware that she will be focusing on that weeks class and project.
Teacher Profile
Maud studied Product Design in Paris and spent the first years of her professional life working in fashion. When she moved to the UK, she started practising as a textile artist, working on community projects, exhibiting in galleries and running a wide range of art workshops.
