It’s SAEE’s 3rd Birthday!

Join Sunday Assembly East End for an extra special assembly as they look back on how far they’ve come, deepen their roots as a community and deliver some game changing and exciting news about the future.

What to expect

They’ve got a top notch line up, including a talk from local author, environmentalist, former stand up comedian and all round charmer Bob Gilbert, author of ‘Ghost Trees: Nature and People in a London Parish’. Written in part in e5 Roasthouse (Poplar Union’s onsite cafe), Ghost Trees tells the story of the Poplar area through the generations of trees that have inhabited it, bringing together natural history, local history and community in a celebration of the importance of place. We love Poplar!

Here’s a review from The Guardian!

Bob will be leading a free local ‘Street Safari’ leaving from Poplar Union at 2pm, exploring our relationship with living things from park trees to weeds, and the stories attached to them. Find out more here.

You’ll also be treated to the ‘smokey vocals, raggablues rhythms’ and participatory singalongs of Little Trumpet…

If thats not enough, they’ll also have researchers attending from Coventry University’s ‘Brain, Belief and Behaviour’ lab to do some research on community activities, and how this influences those who take part. They’re looking for volunteers who are willing to answer a questionnaire both before and after the assembly, and have a ‘pressure cuff’ measure taken. This will take no more than 10 minutes each time, but please arrive a little earlier than normal if you’d like to take part!

PLUS the usual eclectic mix of live band karaoke, poetry facilitated chat, poetry, and guided meditation.

*** Assemblies are free to attend and run entirely on donations. Please support us if you can to keep it free for those who can’t… recommended donation £10 / £5 low income ***
