Artist in Residence: Hugh McCann

This summer, artist Hugh McCann will spend a week at Poplar Union recording and collaging audio made in and about Poplar.

About the Residency

You Are Here: Poplar is the first of a series of soundscapes blending conversations with the inhabitants of culturally unique places in England with field recordings and archival material of the surrounding area.

The piece will be created in Poplar Union one week prior to the first performance on Saturday 7 July. During this week, artist Hugh McCann will making field recordings of Poplar, interviewing local residents, and rummaging through archival material about the area, to create an audio-collage of Poplar. This will then be played in darkness, aiming to conjure up reimagined images of the local area.
